Sticky Marshmallow
Skills:
Physical: upper limb coordination, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skill
Cognitive: selective attention, visual processing
Social: turn taking
Number of participants:
3 or more
Equipment:
- 1 balloon per pair
Description:
- the children lie on their stomachs in a circle, with their heads facing the center (ensure there is enough room in the center for the ball to move)
- each player must push the beach ball away and towards someone else in the circle
- instruct participants to use one or two hands depending on their objective
- each child tries to ensure the “sticky marshmallow” doesn’t touch the top of their head or face to avoid being covered with a sticky mess
Modifications to make the activity easier:
Change the environment: have the children lie on their stomachs closer to each other to decrease physical demand
Modifications to make the activity harder:
Change the equipment: have the child complete the activity with more children to increase social demand
Goal examples:
- the child is able to stop the ball and push it away 3 out of 5 times, using only their left hand
- I can push the ball away from me
