Yes, children using wheelchairs can “kick” the ball with a hockey stick

Modifications to make the activity easier:

Change the environment: make the goal larger to decrease cognitive demand

Change the task: give the children more attempts (lives) to rebound the ball to decrease physical and cognitive demand

Modifications to make the activity harder:

Change the environment: have the child stand farther away from the wall to increase physical demand

Change the task: have the child kick with their less favoured foot to increase physical and cognitive demand

Goal examples:

  • the child shows readiness to rebound the ball (e.g., moves body towards ball, eyes on the ball), 8 out of 10 times
  • I can be ready to receive the ball after my friend has kicked it
