three children stand beside each other across a line, about 2m apart
the 4th child stands in front of and faces the children, about 3m away
the child in front drops a ball and strikes it with their hand to the first child in the line
this child strikes the ball back and the front child then strikes the ball to the 2nd child in the line, and so on
once the front child strikes the ball to all the children in the line and works their way back to the first child in the line, switch positions of the children (e.g., 3rd child in the line becomes the front child, the front child becomes the 1st child in the line, and so on)
Adaptations for Wheelchair Users:
Children in wheelchairs can participate in this activity by striking the ball with their hand while in their wheelchair.
Ensure the child(ren) in wheelchairs have adequate wheelchair skills to move back and forth from the ‘net.’
Alternatively, ensure the able-bodied child(ren) paired with the child(ren) in a wheelchair accurately strike to the child(ren) in a wheelchair.
Modifications to make the activity easier:
Change the equipment: use a larger ball to decrease physical and cognitive demand
Change the task: have the child catch the ball before striking the ball back to their partner to decrease physical and cognitive demand
Modifications to make the activity harder:
Change the equipment: use a smaller ball to increase physical and cognitive demand
Change the task: have the child strike the ball using their non-dominant hand to increase physical and cognitive demand
I will be able to strike a ball to pass to my partner, 5 times in a row
