Boccia Ball Game

Skills:

Physical: under-hand rolling technique, upper limb coordination, hand-eye coordination

Cognitive: selective attention, visual processing

Number of participants:

1 or more

Equipment:

  • 1 small ball (i.e., tennis ball) per child
  • 1 target ball

Description:

  1. try to roll your ball as close to the target ball as you can
Adaptations for Wheelchair Users:

Boccia players can use their hands or their feet. Children who are in chairs can also use their chair to help them roll the ball.

Modifications to make the activity easier:

Change the environment: place the target ball closer to the child when they are throwing to decrease physical demand

Change the task: have the child sit and roll the ball to decrease physical demand

Modifications to make the activity harder:

Change the environment: have the child complete the activity in a loud room/room full of other people to increase cognitive demand

Change the task: have the child do a jump before throwing the ball to increase physical demand

Goal examples:

  • the child is able to throw the ball near the target, from a distance of 3m away
  • I can throw the ball
