Description:

  1. child throws a bean bag to letters on the floor that the coach or leader calls out

Modifications to make the activity easier:

Change the environment: place the letters closer to the child to decrease physical demand

Change the task:

  • have the child toss under-hand to decrease physical demand 
  • have the child point to the target before throwing to decrease cognitive demand 
  • have the child throw the beanbag where they want and then identify the letter to decrease physical demand

Modifications to make the activity harder:

Change the environment: place the letters at random distances to increase physical demand

Change the task: have the child spell out words by tossing bean bags to letters in the correct order to increase cognitive demand

Goal examples:

  • the child is able to accurately throw a bean bag to a letter, 7 out of 10 times
  • I can throw a bean bag to the correct letter with my right arm
