Because physical activity helps everyone’s physical, cognitive, and social development, and because physical activity programs are often not readily accessible for children with developmental conditions, we developed KidsAction Coaching. KidsAction is a free, web-based and in-person program that is based on evidence from our earlier research. KidsAction provides videos and other resources to identify appropriate activities for each child and provides models for activities. It also involves families in their child’s physical activities and encourages parents and caregivers to work together with their peers. KidsAction coaching can also be used by existing physical activity programs to make them more effective for children with specific needs. The goal of our presentation is to share information about the KidsAction approach, and discuss how you might use it with your child. KidsAction Coaching was developed by researchers at UBC in collaboration with Special Olympics BC and the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation Council (I·SPARC). It was funded by the BC Ministry of Health, the Kids Brain Health Network (a Canadian National Centre of Excellence), and Michael Smith Health Research BC.
